Borage

Borage has a fairly thick cylindrical stem. It measures on average between 20 and 60 centimetres high. It is found all over the European continent. Its flowers are usually bright blue, but they can sometimes be white or pink. They are composed of 5 petals, 5 sepals and 5 black anthered stamens.

Borage was used during Antiquity and the Middle Ages as an aphrodisiac, or even as a tonic and energizing drug. Traces of these practices can be found in both Europe and Asia Minor.

Borage oil is particularly rich in gamma-linolenic acid, an essential fatty acid of the omega 6 family, essential for maintaining the structure of the cell membrane.
